Imperdibile per tutti, neofiti e appassionati di lunga data è questo cofanetto di 4 CD uscito verso la fine del 2007 per l'americana Rhino, "Love is the song we sing / San Francisco Nuggets 1965-1970". Che l'apice del fenomeno hippie/psichedelico sia stato raggiunto ad Haight Ashbury, San Francisco nel 1967 non e' un mistero: protagonisti principali Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother & Holding Company, Moby Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Charlatans, Santana, Beau Brummels, Country Joe & Fish.

Ma questo cofanetto/libro, prodotto da Alec Palao, uno dei massimi esperti in materia, forte di un inserto interno di 120 pagine, con saggi dello stesso Palao, Ben Fong-Torres, Gene Sculatti, foto assolutamente stupende delle bands contemplate, riproduzioni di pubblicazioni cartacee specializzate-flyers di quei 5 anni favolosi, ed analisi approfondite di ogni brano ed ogni band, esaurisce il periodo storico e musicale sino in fondo, distribuendo 77 brani in 4 CD di diverse tipologie estetico-cronologiche: "Seismic Rumbles", "Suburbia", "Summer of love" e "The man can't bust our music".

Ecco allora, accanto alle suddette bands  piu' famose una incredibile sequela di brani/groups meno o per nulla noti, o perlomeno solo agli addetti ai lavori, come Mystery Trend, Mourning Reign, The Sons of Champlin, Otherside, Immediate Family, Harbinger Complex, We Five, Syndicate of Sound, Butch Engle & the Styx, People!, Public Nuisance, Country Weather, The Savage Resurrection, The Front Line, The Stained Glass, The New Breed, The Other Side e tantissimi altri. Uno scrigno davvero prezioso pieno di gemme sconosciute!

È consigliata caldamente l'opzione fisica se riuscite a farla vostra, tasche permettendo: potrete scandagliarla in varie riprese e non avrete bisogno di niente altro sulla San Francisco musicale garage-psichedelica di quella rivoluzionaria seconda meta' anni '60.
